All right, kids. For those of you who are confused out there about why I keep talking about using Microsoft Office to do your homework, this is a standard entry-level job position for Mount Horeb, Wisconsin—an entry-level engineering job for a Bachelor of Science in engineering of some sort. Blah, blah, blah.
This is just one of many, many, many job applications that I’ve shown you guys in other videos. I point this one out because it’s an engineering job. Most of you guys who are math, physics, and engineering students thrive in arrogance and an egotistical outlook on things. You get obsessed with using software to amplify and flex your ego, but it’s software that is not a skill. This usually boils down to LaTeX code.
You guys need to understand: this is LaTeX code. You see this where it says LaTeX, BibTeX, Plain TeX, dot, dot, dot? Typeset is a button. This is code, okay? This code works the same in Microsoft Word. You just put it in there, and it works the same in Microsoft Word.
There are two varieties in here. You have LaTeX and Unicode. Most of you get confused. You think LaTeX is software. It’s not. It’s code. You’re thinking about TeXShop. TeXShop is this, where you type this in. This is what you would use if you were going to type LaTeX code to do mathematics. You wouldn’t use third-party software on the internet, like Typst or anything else. You wouldn’t use that. That’s not a skill. That’s a waste of time.
Microsoft Office is required on every single job application, every résumé there is for every job application—whether you’re a business major, a math major, or a medical doctor. It’s a monopoly, kids. You have to know how to use it like an expert by the time you’re in senior year. Otherwise, you’re not getting a job anywhere. If you’re an engineer, you need to start using all this other software to help you with your homework as early as possible.
A lot of you guys get very confused because you’re young. You have a severely bad ego. You’re very arrogant, and you’re uneducated. When you have an arrogant, egotistical, uneducated student, they don’t listen to people who are educated. They listen to themselves—an uneducated person. They create a fantasy world.
I’ve got bad news for you, okay? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a mathematician, a physicist, or an engineer is a janitor, okay? It’s not a glorified job. You are not super intelligent for doing this. You’re not put on a pedestal of, “Fantastic! It’s incredible!” That’s not what’s happening here.
You are choosing to do a job that no one else wants to do. It is tedious. It is long. It is exhausting. It is difficult. You’re choosing to do something no one else wants to do. You’re like a janitor. And without you, people can’t live.
A janitor maintains and keeps things clean, and people look down on them. But you know what? If that janitor weren’t there to clean your toilet, you’d have to do it, and you wouldn’t be able to do your job. Every day, everybody else wakes up to make sure that water is running and electricity is turned on so that you can do your job. And guess what? Every day, you wake up to make sure that water can keep running and the electricity can keep flowing because you’re an engineer, so they can do their job. It’s a circle. We are all equal.
However, when I’m talking on here to you guys—you guys who are math, physics, and engineering kids, you’re doing math, and you think you’re special—those kids, you’re never going to succeed. I have never seen a kid who thinks they’re smart succeed. Kids are like, “I got an A. I got a 4.0 GPA.” I’ve never seen any of you succeed. Nobody wants somebody like that working in their company.
You’re still stuck in the mindset of a middle school student. It’s not your fault. The way middle school teachers, high school teachers, and your parents treat you as a kid, they’re like, “Oh, if you get all A’s, I’ll buy you a car.” Then you’re like, “Okay, anything I can do to get those A’s, and I’m going to be rewarded.”
In college, that’s not what you’re doing. The average GPA you need in college as a math, physics, engineering, or computer science student to get a job or go to graduate school is 2.5. A 2.5. And that’s usually based on your junior and senior courses. They don’t even care about the freshman and sophomore courses.
I would not care about your GPA in college. It is a waste of time. Just focus on getting the proper skills on your résumé. Focus on that. Focus on understanding the material and being a civilized person, a respectful person.
This kid here just comes on the internet and openly harasses a person. You know, that kind of stuff is tracked, and they will find… No one’s going to hire a child who trolls the internet—any of you kids who troll the internet.
I make these videos because I’ve watched you kids fail miserably for almost 20 years now. I just watch these trolling kids and kids who use typesetting software or TeXShop software. You guys can’t get a job anywhere. You go to apply for a job, and they’re like, “What are your skills?” And you’re like, “Third-party software, complaining on the internet, cheating on my homework.”
And they’re like, “Oh, well, we need someone experienced with Microsoft Office who shows up to lecture and respects their professor—i.e., shows up to work and respects their managers. We need people who are civilized, self-sufficient, and self-reliant.”
And they’re like, “Well, how did you pay for your books, movies, and music?” “Oh, I pirated them.” “Oh, so you’re a felon. So if we give you access to anything of value at our company, if you can click a button and take it, you will, huh?” And you’re like, “Well, absolutely. If all I have to do is click a button to steal from you, of course I’m going to do it. That makes perfect sense. And by the way, you never said I had to show up to work, so I’m not going to come to work, and you’re still going to pay me.”
This is how you kids think. The syllabus says you don’t have to go to lecture, and you literally think you don’t have to go to lecture. You guys look at every possible excuse you can to do nothing but yet feel accomplished. It’s some sort of delusional state of mind. You’re not doing anything, and you’re getting a false sense of accomplishment because you were trained that way in high school.
You get a gold star for getting a good GPA, whether you cheated or not. It’s all about the GPA. Get those good grades. Here’s a gold star. Mama’s going to buy you a brand-new car if you get straight A’s. Then you’re trained to think that way. You go into college, and you continue that behavior.
That is not what an employer is seeking. They don’t want a high school student who needs a gold star and a chocolate milk. They want an adult who shows up to work, does not complain, is self-sufficient, is respectful to other people, and is highly skilled in a plethora of software.
If you guys are confused as to why I keep talking about Microsoft Office, just go look at job applications. Go look at the jobs you’re going to apply for senior year and find out how unqualified you are.
If you’re a math, physics, engineering, or computer science major, you need to have a reality check with yourself. You’re not intelligent. You’re just a janitor. You’re going to go do the hardest work on the planet for nothing, to be spit on by society. People do not look up to you. They look down on you.
So if you’re going to do math, physics, engineering, or computer science, you better do it because you like it. If you like it, you wouldn’t be cheating with AI. If you like it, you’d be looking at job applications and doing this right. If you don’t like it, you’ll disrespect it. You’ll cheat with AI. You’ll cheat with Khan Academy. You’ll cheat with private tutors. You’ll cheat with teacher solution manuals. You’ll commit felonies pirating solution manuals. That’s not a scientist. You’re a criminal. No one’s going to want you working for their company.
You can’t go to lecture. You can’t do all that stuff. You’re in the wrong place. This is a serious thing.
Mighty Elf over here, who is harassing me, is clearly like a 14-year-old high school student who has access to his parents’ phones. They’re just showcasing the behavior of the average college student. College students act like that—like a little 14-year-old boy who didn’t get his chocolate milk at nap time. You guys act like that.
In a couple of years, a company’s going to pay you—you know, this is pretty low pay. Mount Horeb’s a small place in Wisconsin. Most of these companies might pay you $100,000 or $200,000 a year. Do you think they’re going to pay Mighty Elf, a little turd who trolls the internet, $200,000 a year? Are you kidding me? Like, are you seriously kidding me, guys?
Do you think these companies are going to pay $100,000-plus to somebody who thinks LaTeX is software? Do you guys understand that the level of intellect you’re at right now is not even remotely close to the level of intellect you have to have to get a job?
If you’re serious about this and you’re a mathematician, physicist, engineer, or computer scientist, what you need to do is stop watching people on the internet. Go to class. Read the syllabus. Read the code of conduct. Follow the syllabus. Work with your professor. Do things on campus with other people. Become civilized.
If you guys want to get a job as a STEM major, you need to use Microsoft Office. This is the first thing you need to start doing: use Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office for everything. Then start integrating other software, and start doing it as early as possible. You need years and years of experience doing it.
All right. That’s my two cents on that. If you guys want to join, this is being streamed live on Zoom. If you guys want to join my Math Monthly, you can log into the Zoom session.
